THE COUGHING DOG THAT HOLDS ITS SPINE IN ITS TEETH ...and others that disintegrate the people of the world. Hugo’s Bad Dreams. Since Hugo sleeps a lot, he accumulates a lot of nasty nightmares, which he often talks about with Philip. These nightmares manifest as a very sentient person called Janko Janko, a name given by Hugo, since he likes creating things and considers a name the staple of having made something. Janko Janko is completely mute, and usually just stalks around behind Hugo's back like a living shadow, and if he isn't occupying that space he is infiltrating the space of Hugo's room where he has a dog bed just for his use. Because Hugo things dogs are awful, hellish, bad-dream creatures (though he doesn't necessarily dislike them), Janko Janko has a very many dog qualities and mannerisms like sounds, motions, and the like. Ironically, Janko Janko himself thinks dogs are something to be abhored, and so he does, strangely. He is usually depicted as a very tall, pale person with a collar around the neck, sometimes attached to a leash, attached to Hugo’s right wrist.
